OptoSonics is pleased to announce that it is one of the first 2 recipients of the National Cancer Institute's new Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants. This program, available only to companies that have already received SBIR grants from the National Institutes of Health, awards $3M ($1M per year for 3 years) to recipients who raise matching funds from the private sector and continue to meet definitive project milestones. The grants are designed to fill the funding gap after Phase II SBIR awards to help advance products or services toward commercialization.

Today, the North Carolina Board of Science and Technology announced that OptoSonics was a Phase I Matching Funds Program awardee under the One North Carolina Small Business Program. This award is provided to reimburse qualified North Carolina businesses for a portion of their costs incurred in preparing and submitting proposals to the federal SBIR program.

An agreement has been reached between OptoSonics and one of its primary business partners to license part of OptoSonics' intellectual property portfolio. OptoSonics will provide technology transfer expertise to facilitate design and construction of commercial photoacoustic scanners. |
